Park on the Hill

CLIENT: University of Newcastle

The Park on the Hill project creates a series of linked social spaces within an existing car park at the University of Newcastle. The project plays an important role within the University and in particular the Hunter side of Campus, by creating a lively ‘Student Social Precinct’.The civil & landscape works included the following main elements and scope:

  • Demolition – Extensive demolition
  • W01 – Walls & Seating – void formed concrete walls in an off white concrete
  • Centre Deck – 81 sqm – block formed walling with Innowood decking on steel substructure
  • Sun Deck/Stage – 86 sqm – block formed walling with Innowood decking on steel substructure
  • Deck Extension – 213 sqm – block formed walling with Innowood decking on steel substructure and with timber stairs
  • Shade Structure – multi-coloured fabric supported by structural steel posts
  • Drainage – localised drainage including imported cast iron grates
  • Pavers & Stairs – imported stone paved footpaths and mass concrete stairs
  • Landscape works – plants, mulch and turf to surrounds
  • Synthetic Turf & A/C – two areas of synthetic turf laid around lounge areas
  • Furniture & Fixtures – scattered furniture for students to lounge on
  • Maintenance – 3 month maintenance period
  • Time lapse camera
