Auchmuty Outdoor Learning Lounge

CLIENT: University of Newcastle

Scape was engaged by the University of Newcastle to construct the Auchmuty Outdoor Learning Lounge which is adjacent to the universities Auchmuty Library. The objectives of this project were to refresh and reconfigure the existing outdoor spaces adjacent to the Auchmuty Library through the provision of active informal outdoor learning spaces, incidental-meeting spaces, and accessible routes to existing buildings and better legibility to the Shortland Precinct pedestrian spine.

The civil & landscape works included the following main elements and scope:

  • Demolition – Existing pavers, concrete base, tree removal
  • Shade Structures – structural steel and roofing installation
  • Decorative Exposed Ag – poured at different levels including stairs
  • Synthetic Turf installed
  • Uplighting installation including conduits
  • Furniture and fixture installation including bespoke custom pieces
  • Construction of Gabion cages using existing river pebbles from site. Custom seating installed within and on top of gabion cages
  • Raised custom powder coated planter boxes installed
  • Planting in ground and around tree protection areas
